Santa Fe – New Mexico State Treasurer Laura M. Montoya has been appointed to the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST) Banking and Cash Management Committee and Policy and Advocacy Committee, bringing New Mexico and the State Treasurer’s Office to the forefront of national fiscal policy and advocacy efforts. This appointment highlights Treasurer Montoya’s financial expertise at the national level and underscores her growing influence in national fiscal policy discussions.

NAST is a highly regarded bipartisan organization that supports state treasurers through education, advocacy, and collaboration. The NAST Bank Committee serves as a critical platform for state treasurers from across the nation to advise on national standards, policies, and best practices that impact banking services and help states manage billions of dollars in public funds.

Treasurer Montoya has been reappointed for a second term to the NAST Policy and Advocacy Committee. This committee plays a key role in guiding national policy initiatives that affect state finances. Montoya’s reappointment highlights her ongoing commitment to advocating for policies that strengthen state treasuries and promote fiscal responsibility on both the state and national levels.

“My appointment to the NAST Bank Committee and reappointment to the Policy and Advocacy Committee are both an honor and a responsibility,” stated Treasurer Montoya. “Continuing my service with NAST provides an opportunity to ensure that New Mexico’s voice is placed at the forefront when shaping innovative banking solutions and transformative policy initiatives that will benefit New Mexico and the entire nation.”

Treasurer Montoya’s appointments are critical as states navigate evolving financial challenges resulting in inflation, increasing interest rates, and market volatility. Treasurer Montoya will contribute to shaping national strategies and policy frameworks while

bringing valuable insights back to New Mexico, enhancing the state’s fiscal processes and

bolstering our economic resilience.
