PRESS CALL: State Financial Leaders to Condemn Republicans for Stealing from Americans to Pay for Billionaires’ Tax Cuts

Santa Fe — As Donald Trump and his allies try to jam their reconciliation bill through the Senate before Independence Day, New Mexico State Treasurer Laura M. Montoya, Washington Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti, and Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman are highlighting the catastrophic consequences of Republicans’ bill on American families. Speakers will discuss how these devastating cuts will worsen the country’s affordability crisis and raise taxes on working families to hand billionaires and big business new tax breaks while increasing the federal deficit.

State financial leaders have repeatedly warned that the devastating cuts to food assistance and health care in this bill aren’t just harmful, they’re deadly. This week, these fiscal experts will break down the many ways this bill steals from working families by gutting programs that make housing and college more affordable, create good-paying jobs, and help lower utility costs—all to give massive tax cuts.

Speakers will outline how this budget is a full-scale attack on American families, urging senators from across the aisle to come together to reject this giveaway to the wealthy and well-connected.
