State, City Financial Leaders to Condemn Irresponsible FEMA Cuts, Discuss Impacts on Their States and Constituents
Santa Fe — New Mexico State Treasurer Laura M. Montoya, Vermont State Treasurer Mike Pieciak, Minnesota State Auditor Julie Blaha, and Houston City Controller Chris Hollins will join Americans for Responsible Growth for a press call highlighting the recklessness of the Trump administration’s move to gut the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
In the aftermath of a natural disaster, families can lose everything and be left without recourse if insurance companies are unwilling or unable to pay out claims. Mass firings and cuts at FEMA will only exacerbate these issues and leave communities across the country unable to start their lives again. The state financial officers will discuss FEMA’s invaluable role in disaster preparedness and recovery in their respective states, as well as the repercussions recent budget cuts will have on the country’s long-term economic health.
