NM State Treasurer James B. Lewis Hosts the 3rd Annual LGIP Stakeholder Meeting
The Honorable James B. Lewis announces the third annual State Treasurer’s Local Government Investment Pool Stakeholder Meeting to be held August 4, 2011. This year’s featured speaker is Sandra L. Thompson who is Director, Division of Risk Management Supervision (RMS) for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Ms. Thompson is traveling from the FDIC offices in Washington, DC to speak to our stakeholders about the Dodd-Frank Act, an issue about which there are many questions in the offices of finance officers today. Ms. Thompson should be able to illuminate and clarify for us, some of the key issues.
Treasurer Lewis started the stakeholder meetings to enhance communication, collaboration and cooperation between the State Treasurer’s Office and its stakeholders. The meetings also provide an opportunity for Treasurer Lewis to bring in high level speakers, and a forum to discuss pertinent local and national issues.
Ms. Thompson is responsible for all aspects of FDIC supervisory activities nationwide. She leads the FDIC’s domestic and international banking policy development. Prior to joining the FDIC, Ms. Thompson worked for the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) and for Goldman Sachs. She is a graduate of Howard University where she studied finance.
The Treasurer is very happy to welcome Ms. Thompson to New Mexico and all the speakers who will be traveling to visit our state and update local government officials about important topics in today’s turbulent financial markets. Other distinguished speakers include: Tom Porcelli, Chief US Economist for RBC Capital Markets Group; Peter Rizzo, Senior Director of S&P Financial Institutions Group; Chris Karlin, SVP and Manager of US Bank’s Government Banking Division; Douglas M. Brown, Dean of UNM Anderson School of Management; James Jimenez, City Manager for the City of Rio Rancho; and Deanne Woodring, Managing Director, Davidson Fixed Income Management; among others.
Treasurer Lewis will host the annual Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP) Stakeholder meeting on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Fidelity Investment building in the Mesa del Sol development in Albuquerque.
