Nov 17, 2008: Treasurer Lewis Keynote Speaker at Dartmouth Business School
Diversity Conference
SANTA FE – State Treasurer James B. Lewis presented a keynote address on Friday, in Hanover, N.H., during the annual diversity conference hosted by Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
Treasurer Lewis encouraged prospective students to pursue a graduate-level education and shared his definitions of diversity and education based on his personal and professional accomplishments.
“Diversity is about thinking outside the box and the creativity of individuals,” said Treasurer Lewis. “Education is developing an individual physically, mentally, morally, socially and spiritually so that he or she might become a more well-rounded and productive individual to perpetuate a better democracy.”
Treasurer Lewis became the first African-American to serve as New Mexico state treasurer when he was appointed in December 1985 by then-Governor Toney Anaya. Treasurer Lewis was subsequently elected to a four-year term in 1986, serving as state treasurer from 1987 to 1990. Treasurer Lewis took office on December 15, 2006, after being elected on November 7, 2006.
Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business hosted the 15th Annual Diversity Conference on November 12-16, 2008. The business school welcomed prospective students to the campus to meet with Tuck students, faculty, staff and alumni, and with visiting executives from the public and private sectors. The conference also offered mock courses and panel discussions on consulting, finance and general management.
